Health economists have largely ignored complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) as an area of research, although both clinical experiences and several empirical studies suggest cost-effectiveness of CAM.
The results were that patients whose GP had CAM training were likely to experience 30% lower healthcare costs and mortality rates, (taking into consideration age groups and CAM therapy), as well as fewer hospital stays and prescription drugs.
