Homeopathic Help for Foxes with Sarcoptic Mange

HOMEOPATHY is playing a key role in helping foxes to fight against Sarcoptic mange, which if left untreated can result in death.

Sarcoptic mange in foxes is commonly treated by UK wildlife charities with conventional medicine.

However there are instances where an effected fox cannot be humanely captured and stabilised with re-hydration fluids and antibiotics, before conventional treatment can begin, and this is where homeopathy plays a vital role.

Said Trevor Williams, Director of The Fox Project: “When we are unable to capture the animal by means of net or cage trap, we have long referred householders to treat on-site with homeopathic Arsenicum album and Sulphur 30c.

“This policy came about after observing its effects, in association with a couple of homoeopaths, from as long ago as 1998.  Even so, our experience is that it is only effective on animals with up to 40% fur loss and seldom so if the animal has a thick crust over the body. With less seriously affected animals we are entirely convinced, in most cases, of its effectiveness.”

Another national charity championing the welfare of foxes is the National Fox Welfare Society who sends out homeopathic treatments to householders who are unable or unwilling to pay for treatment themselves.

Martin Hemmington, founder of the National Fox Welfare Society said: “We have been sending out this treatment for over ten years with brilliant results. That said, we are not homeopaths and we do use conventional medicine when we have hands on with a fox.

“Many think of homeopathic treatments as the placebo effect, but since foxes are not aware they are being treated with alternative medicine, the placebo effect can’t work.”
